Caption: "You have seen my breasts. I am so horny… Why not play with my thong and make it soak up more of my juice?" – well, if that isn't pure sexism, then what is? A female figure is degraded into an object of lust. There is absolutely nothing here that has even the slightest educational value. Truly nothing. And as a work of art, it is completely devoid of merit.
Caption: "Fahada made the historical moment during the swimming competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics, attracting worldwide audiences with not only her great performance but the incredible appearance. 'A swimsuit should expose a swimmer's natural beauty, and I wore that one when one billion people was watching me.'" – not only are women's athletic achievements marginalized; no, they are defined within their sport as objects of lust and sex. And not just from the outside—no, that doesn't even cover it here; the figure is actually made to voice her own self-objectification.
Several issues converge here. First of all, this does not involve a well-known artist; rather, it is the self-promotion of an individual who would like to be an artist. Yet, the fact that Commons is being used as a platform for self-promotion and abused as free web space isn't even the worst part. The blatant sexism is far more serious. While this might be acceptable for older works accompanied by critical analysis from recent research (educational use), it is not okay here. In the eyes of the uploader/creator, these women become mere sex objects. However, Commons does not collect images simply because they happen to be lying around freely on the web. Commons has a mission: we collect images and other files that support an educational purpose in some way. That criterion is not met here in the slightest. I will single out just two examples from the many images (see adjacent). Commons cannot, must not, and should not become a partner to this cheap sexism perpetrated by individuals seeking self-promotion.
